Can i feed egg shells to my chickens?

i was told i could give the shells to my chickens it is good for them. is that true and what do i need to do to them frist or should i just throw them in to the coop and let them just pick at them?

Sure you can! You just need to bake them first, so you don't encourage any bad egg eating habits, then smash them up and give them to the chickens.

yes, you can feed them back. They are a good source of calcium (but they do not take the place of oyster shell). First, you need to make sure they are dry. I put mine in the microwave for about 15 seconds. Then, you need to break them into small pieces so they do not resemble an egg. Otherwise, they may get the idea that it's okay to eat eggs, and you DO NOT want that! I put mine in a gallon ziploc bag, and when it's full, I rollerpin them to break them up. They'll love them! Some folks just add them to the oyster shell they give free-choice, others put it in their feed dishes. Do whatever works for you!
