can i feed my chickens field rice

i have a neighbor who farms rice he has a lot of rice left in his bins, he asked if i want it to feed my chickens ,i dont think they can have raw rice ,but im not sure,so any one know thanks janie:he
 
Don't feed raw rice. Only coocked rice.

^i believe you, but why not? I just want to know. And what will it do to them, i'm imagining a seagull+alkaseltzer type reaction, but hoping not...
 
I'm pretty sure that if they eat raw rice it expands inside and kills them or something. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

But it's okay to feed cooked, your chickens will love it.

I believe it is an urban legend started inthe 50's as an April Fools day joke.
I feed my chickens both cooked and raw rice as a treat. I don't think rice is high enough in nutrients to be more than a treat.

nooooo rice !!!!!! if they eat it it will swell and they will ....... well ... : gulp : ..... lets just say you may have a chicken liver as a hood ornament afterwards ( they will go boom _)
 
grains swell to a certain degree when wet. Rice does not swell any more than wheat,oats, corn or any other grain that is routinely fed to chickens.
