Hi, I am new to chickens. I just bought my first flock. 3 Golden Comets 11 months old and 1 Red Star, 1 RIR and 1 Ameraucana. All 3 from the same breeder and 4 months old. I was told to feed them layer pellets and oyster shells. Is that ok or do I need to add something else?

yeah that's fine. I give mine the same thing plus the occasional treat.

I wouldn't feed layer until the 4-monthers are laying. Grower or all-flock with oyster shell on the side would suit a mixed ages flock best.

Ditto. I feed a gamebird feed (super breeder crumbles) though, bc when I went into TSC and asked for grower or all-flock feed they looked at me like I was crazy and said "um, we have chick food and layer pellets, they'll be fine on that"! NO, so after flipping thru the catalogue and comparing feeds, I decided the gamebird feed was good. The chickens LOVE it!

x3 I would not feed a layer until they are all laying. Layer feed just has extra calcium which can also be achieved with oyster shells.
