Hello,
Sugarcane juice is highly nutritious with lots of vitamins and especially minerals, it is influenced by variety and the way you grow your sugarcane. Sugarcane is basically a large grass, one of the most efficient plants at converting sunlight into biomass. Most plant have an efficiency of 0.1-2% whereas Sugarcane has an efficiency of ~6-8%.
While doing research on raising chicks, there were some people that mentioned adding electrolytes or even sugar to the newly hatched chicks watering container will give them a boost of energy but I try to avoid using white table sugar as it is highly processed. Instead, I gave them diluted fresh sugarcane juice from my backyard which has natural sugars and lots of other goodies.
Sugarcane juice is living plant juice and oxidizes very fast, you can tell when you juice it. Freshly pressed, it is yellow in color but after about 5-15 minutes, it starts to oxidize into a brownish color. I feel that the natural living juice of this grass along with wheatgrass juice may contain micronutrients that may benefit my birds. You can find the exact nutritional content of sugarcane juice by googling it, I'm too lazy to list it
I give Sugarcane juice and wheatgrass juice to my kids so I figure if it's good enough for us, it's good enough for my birds.
