I've heard of many who feed theirs crab as well as other various types of fish or crustaceans on occasion.

If you're worried, just don't give them too much at once and wait a few hours or the next day to give more to be sure nobody gets the runs or anything. I doubt they would, though.

It's generally not good to feed expired foods or anything molding to any creature. Food poisoning and botulism aren't just a human issue.

A few weeks expired whether refrigerator kept or not is long enough for spoiling to happen.
