can I feed venison liver and heart to my hens?

Quote:
It might taste good but the liver is a whole body filter among other things. It is best to discard or to feed to animals. The Bible always says to discard the liver (caul) of clean, fit-to-eat animals.

OK, if that's how you feel - just send what you don't want to me

No dogs here and we don't like liver so the chickens get it and other organ meats. Depends on how busy I am...sometimes raw, sometimes cooked by boiling. If I boil it, I pour the 'broth' over game crumbles for a high proein treat to molting birds or layers.

And how does venison heart compare to beef heart? I have a good recipe for beef heart; and as that's not a filter organ, even my mom would eat it. Brown onion and the trimmed heart well, add a half a bottle beer or a cup or so of wine, some salt & pepper, and gently simmer a couple hours until very tender.
but really, the hunter's gift might not have been handled well enough to eat - this stuff spoils easily. Gets off tasting. Then, the chickens get it, right?

My dog would get all that organ-y stuff. She loves lungs too. The non-edible bones would go to stock of some kind. I'm not even sure the chickens would get much!!!!

Now if only I could find a deer

Our truck found a deer the other day. Not a good way! Be careful what you wish for. Not long ago I said I wish I had some venison in my freezer. Expensive venture!!! Ins deductible $500 and $140 processing. I have to say we had the heart last night and it was awesome! The rest will be home soon. Truck has $5,000 damage.
