Can I just toss a few ears in the run & let them go at it ??

I've never done this but I don't see why not. Whenever my family eats cob corn, we throw the cobs out for the chooks and they love to clean them up. Keeps them busy for awhile and once the cobs are stribbed bare, we throw them in the compost.

I was just wondering if the kernals would be too big or hard for them to digest yet.

Mine are about 24 - 26 weeks old. We had some corn get too mature for us to eat this summer. I left it on the stalk. About once a week I have been picking several ears and tossing it in the run. They love it. It keeps them busy for a couple of hours. Most of it is dried up now but they don't seem to care. I will probably pick the rest of it today and give it to them. I had to throw away a couple of ears yesterday because they had some mold on them. Our fall rains have started. The rest of it will probably get moldy quickly if it does not get eaten within the next couple of days.

I see my girls eat dirt and pebles all the time. So my guess is kernals should be ok. But then again this is my fist time with chicks also
