My vote is for the Black Australorps. Solid layers of nice brown eggs and very pleasant birds. I have several breeds and they are a favorite.

If you want to be sure of what you'll get, go with the BA. Sweet, pretty hens who lay medium to large light brown, slightly elongated eggs.

OTOH, if you want a surprise and variety, go for the EEs. My EEs are the best layers in my flock, and all look different and have different personalities--some good, some bad. They lay slightly smaller eggs than my BA.

Okay, I just ordered from a feed store but there were no BA. I was planning on getting them from TSC, but now that I have ordered them from another place, I am going to do a grab bag at TSC and hope I get some BA
