Can I inject Penicillin to stop the infection?

would you just cull it and bury,, or eat? ,,, with the infection this hen has?

Don't ever eat a sick animal, Jim.

We use Pen-G on the other critters and the vet told us that the every other day rule was because it's formulated to be a slow release, yet fast acting med.

Thank you guys, I've tried the penicillin thing yesterday and and some blue spray and the smell has decreased so far. I used 1/2 a cc and cleansed it with saline solution along with the blue antibacterial spray.

For an infection this serious, you might also look into colloidal silver, which is a strong antibiotic that has been used for centuries. Silver fell out of favor in the '30s with the advent of antibiotics, so its use is somewhat controversial today, but if you are close to culling or losing your chicken to infection it's probably worth a try.

Colloidal silver is sold in health food stores but is pretty pricey. I have a CS generator that I bought online, but it's easy to make your own if you are even just a little bit savvy with electronics, and is very cheap after the initial investment. The silver wire that is used will probably last you forever. I've made gallons & gallons of colloidal and the wires I have are not noticeably smaller. I think the distilled water + electricity costs me more than the silver consumed when I make colloidal. Here is a website that gives some instructions for making a generator: http://www.cancertutor.com/Cancer02/CSilver.html

I would still pursue the conventional antibiotics & other medicines as well if it were my bird. Feel free to PM me if you want more info on this, and good luck!

1 CC in the thigh is fine. Just keep at it for at least a week.

Also, Pen-G is fast acting, Pen-B is slow releasing. Always check the label so you don't get them backwards.
