I have six chicks that hatched in the incubator. I also had several turkey eggs that were supposed to hatch several days later. Problem? Of the turkey eggs only one hatched. He is lonely. So he would be better off together with the chicks.

Big dilema is then what should I feed them?
Chick food, (unmedicated), 20% protein?
Or poult feed 28% protein? Or should I mix both? Will the chicks be affected if they eat the poult feed? Will it be ok for the baby poult to eat chick feed or combination?
I am aware that poults need certain specific nutrition but, he also shouldn’t be alone.
Thank you for your help.

I think they will both be fine. I’ve raised poults and chicks together and they both ate the same food with no problems. They grew up healthy and happy :love

Points shouldn't be mixed with birds for health reasons, as well as social reasons. They don't speak the same "language" and thus will still on basic levels be lonely. They need a higher protein than chicks do or they can have health problems, especially leg problems. Chickens also can give turkeys nasty illnesses

I know there is always the threat of transmission of sicknesses. I also know that poults need a higher protein and other minerals that chicken do not and now I find out that they speack different languages and can still feel isolated. (+all members of my flock free range in same area, so whatever one have, all also have.) But, if he is the only survivor of a clutch, isn't it better for him to be with some other birds than alone in a cage by himself? Also, if I am mixing the poult feed with the starter chick feed, 50/50, isn't that good?

Which brings me to the next question. What would happen to the chicks if I feed them the poult food? Is it bad for them? If that is ok, then I can feed them all the poult food and forget about the mixing. Also, Dumor has this Poultry chick 24% protein, starter game chicks from 0-6 weeks that has a picture of a chick and poult on the front. Can I just feed them that?

Thank you for your help. 🙏:)

I also have this other one that is for turkeys and gamebirds specifically, that it is 28% protein. Its called Nature Serve. Never heard of that one before. That is the one I have been mixing 50/50 with the chick starter that is 20%.

Again Thank you.
