Can I keep just one goat?

Goats are great....I plan to own some one day. I would definitely recommend 2 at least. My neighbor had one....lonely goat.... and it cried all the time.

I’ve heard of Nigerian dwarfs. Don’t know much about them. I have Boer and Nubian Boer mixes. I know Nigerian dwarfs are much smaller so hopefully for you much easier to keep fenced in and manage. Escape artists. But I can’t imagine my life without my horned devil children. Lol. I mean my babies.

I have seen Nigerian dwarfs. Primary 4h members (8 and under) can only show small animals but dwarf and pygmy goats are included. But no personally we're have Boer goats for markets 4h, and 3 oberhasli which are my retired breeders (aka lawn mowers) they are a good size goat and both breeds are very smart. But the retired dairy girls are much easier to manage both for general care and in other situations like if they get out the gate. The Boer being younger simply aren't as agreeable as the others when it comes to general care or gate escapes..

When it comes to goats, don't let them get your goat, don't pout around and mote. Take things all in stride, and don't let them chapp your hide! You get the picture!

Can you keep just one goat? Yes. Should you try to keep just one goat? No. It is no more work to have two goats than it is one, and a contented goat is far easier to keep in a pen than one who is lonely and is looking for company.

Lambs eat oats, and goats eat oats, and little lambs eat ivy. If you were a goat then you would eat oats, wouldn't you? I thought it was cute!

I have been doing some reading on keeping one goat. I know that it is possible/people do it, but it is not recommend. I know that the goat needs a lot of love and attention. Luckily, we homeschool, so we’re home 24/7. I have free ranging chickens, an outdoor cat, and a grassy (weedy) 1 acre property. I have seen people get bashed for asking this “dumb” question, so, I’m asking for kindness in yals response. Thank you!

My friend has had one goat since it was an infant. Goat is 5 years old. It roams all around her property.
I on the other hand have a 3.5 acres small what I call a farm. 3 Chickens, 4 guineas, one Sun conure, my service dog, and I recently adopted a cat from the local shelter. I am looking for a young goat (female) to adopt or foster any ideas?
