Can I keep my chicken a secret?

Well I wonder if they will sing as loud as the Harley's? LOL There is a Harley-Davidson repair shop directly behind me. I hear a rooster somewhere in the neighborhood. So somebody else has chickens as well.

you might, I know one person on my street that has 2 hens and his neighbors don't know yet and it has been a while!
He has really thick shrubs and trees all around and the sound just can't get through.

I agree, we were going to try to keep 2 but our neighbor was a no-go, and not enough room between us and them, they would have found out. they are now happy out at my buddy's nursery/farm. I would say- go ask, it is always best to communicate upfront then to be caught. imho. and if there is already a rooster in the neighborhood, maybe you got a shot.

now, I do intend to keep some quail, so far the females are far quieter than the chickens were.

best of luck!

I have 2 SLW hens, (just added 6 chicks) and the neighbors behind us that watched me build the coop asked me months later, "When are you getting chickens?" So I guess my girls aren't making a ruckus. Nobody cares.

some of my neighbors keep asking me if we still have the chickens, and then complain about the noise

I don't know what your set up is, but it is possible to keep it a secret, unless you have super nosey neighbors.

They cluck cluck cluck all day long but I can't imagine that bothering anyone, depends on the neighbor I guess........my ex lives next door to me so I have my crowing roosters and barking dogs

My house backups to alot of businesses. A Battery factory that runs a forklift all day long and the Harley's. SO really don't know how a chicken noise could raise any flags.

I do not get along with my neighbors on either side of me. We had a very bad storm blow down several huge trees and the clean up and damage was horrific. My Homeowners insurance would not pay out because it was an act of God. Each one had to file on thier own policies . So they don't like me. And I'm not asking them for approval.

I did run into the City Code Enforcement guys at the Chinese restruarant and ask them about Chicken codes. He said unless someone complains no one at the city cares.

But if it comes to getting a fine my chicken will have a nice home in the country waiting for her. I'll convert the chicken coop into a potting shed.

BTW I have 126 eggs encubating. It's a long story. LOL I think I have gone crazy.
