I have this old crate that I'm wanting to recycle, hopefully without having to dismantle it. It's 32"×38" and 19" deep. I was thinking of flipping it on its side, adding a few nesting boxes and a roost near the top, and adding a run. I need it to house 4-6 banties. Is it feasible? Any ideas? TIA

I thought its way too small, Great for placing baby chicks for few weeks but not as a coop.

That's what I was afraid of. I think we'll just dismantle it and use the lumber. He has an idea to make a chicken tractor with a barn type structure, so I may leave it all up to him. I may have to use the crate for a bit though, as the chicks are getting too big for the one they're in now.

You Might able to use the wood for nesting boxes, I like the crate though almost perfect to turn into my coffee table by putting glass on top of it, I made one before as a book case.

Make sure to build a coop that will be appropriate for your climate and size of your flock to keep them happy and healthy therefore good eggs or good meat or whatever purpose your raising chicken. Ideal i guess is 5 sq ft per chicken and double that for the run per chicken, otherwise it will be just similar to what they call battery chicken , caged and abuse. I wanted only 2-4 chicken originally in where I live but the more I research I understand more about whats best for them.
