Can I mix Nutri-Drench and Hydro Hen for an injured goose? Electrolytes, probiotics, vitamins...

Hi!

I am caring for a domestic goose with a very large infected wound. She just finished her antibiotics, Baytril. She is not my goose, she lives at a local public pond, so this is all very new and stressful for her. Vet said that she must stay in house right now, so that's where she is.

While her appetite has improved, she is still not eating a normal amount. She will only eat bread and cracked corn, vet said bread is ok for her to eat right now - anything she will eat is good for right now.

We've tried so many healthy treats but she doesn't want them - any suggestions for things that geese love would also be much appreciated!

I want to make sure she's getting enough nutrition. I have given her one water with Nutri-Drench, and one with Hydro Hen (alternated). Would it be okay to mix these? I know you are only supposed to give Hydro Hen 12 hours out of a 24 hour period, but I would still like to mix in the Nutri-Drench as often as possible to get her healthy!

Thank you!!

Is she a dumped domestic? Probably use to junk and also grazes if there is grass. I am not sure if I’d combine maybe just leave it like it is two different waterers you can give the Nutri drench by mouth and it goes straight into the blood stream always my go to when I have a birds not feeling up to par. So sweet of you to take care of her. She looks precious!

Yep I'm pretty sure she must be a dumped domestic. I don't know much about geese or birds so I am very glad to hear you like the Nutri drench! She had a checkup at the vet yesterday and they said that her wound is looking really good and that the outlook is "cautiously optimistic"... 9 days ago they said she only has about a 50% chance of surviving, so we're pretty happy with the progress! She's such a strong and sweet little goose. Thanks for the response! IMG_0327.jpg

You should be able to mix those.

The wild geese like grass, dandelions, and clover. They're also big fans of berries and apples slices.

Thanks! I haven't tried dandelion or clover yet for her because they aren't in season and it doesn't look like you can buy them anywhere but I'm growing some for her in my window. I think she is too scared to try anything new, so I'm hoping those will be more familiar!

Bless her heart what happened to her? Any chance of finding her a good forever home?

We're not sure... the vet didn't think it was a predator, but that she perhaps somehow impaled herself with something. The wound is as deep/big as a tennis ball, infected and was becoming necrotic when we first brought her in, so she sure is a fighter! Very lucky that it didn't make it to her organs the vet said. 2 more weeks of antibiotics and we hope the infection will be taken care of

We're not sure what we should do with her... there are actually 6 other domestic geese where she was, a local pond. One of which I think must be her mate, because when we go to check on him, he's doing that "call" noise over and over which is pretty heartbreaking, and just unusual behavior like not eating much. We've "known" these guys since September, we go to feed them throughout the winter when they can't find food. I know they form strong bonds, so I would hate to keep her from her flock and especially her mate, but no sanctuary will take 7 geese...

We could take them all when we move, but that's some time away unfortunately
