I am fairly new to raising chickens so please forgive my ignorance. I have 2 pullets that just started laying a week ago and 2 others that are about a month younger. Today I got 2 full grown hens that are about a year old. My question is will they be ok to put them all together? The person I got them from said they would be fine, maybe peck each other a little but would be fine. I put them all together and they seemed fine, but the 2 older one satyed in one corner while the other 4 did there usual thing. My concern is tonight when they go in there coop if they will get along and be ok. I though about keeping them seperated for the night. So far they all have been in the coop together for about an hour with no problems. Does it sound like they will be ok? I don't want to have a chicken fight in the middle of the night!! Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Hi Coolchange-
First off, we were all newbies at one point (heck, some of us still are)! You won't be "ignorant" for long, trust me... There is a lot of good info and great people on this forum.
Now- On with your question!
Yes, there probably will be a little pecking going on, but the best way to do this is gradually. Is there a way you can separate the groups but let them still see each other?
Another concern is that the two hens you just got may have something that can pass onto your others. It's best to keep new chickens away from the group for a few weeks to make sure you're not bringing in sickness or disease.
If you can't or decide not to do that, what you'll probably see is one group in the coop and the other group outside. Generally, the new group will be outside (or the bossier group).
Chances are you won't see a chicken fight in the middle of the night since they get bed head like the rest of us!
