Hello,
My six week old chick is not fully feathered but I want to move her outside with one other 8 week old fully feathered chick. They would be separated from the rest of the flock and would have a mini coop for nighttime. The weather is dipping to 51 every night and is around 75 in the daytime. Here are a couple of photos. She is the brown and grey one.
Is this safe for her? Thank you!

I just put my 6 week Olds out of the house lol! I'm done! They are starting to make big chick sounds and they are almost fully feathered! ISA Browns, they feathered fast, but they keep scratching the pine shaving out and I'm tired of cleaning them up. I use p pads for the shaving to land on, but oh my gosh they need to be outside so they can scratch the ground! Coop is not complete bc I can't decide on what to use. Many experts say sand and they got the info from here BYC, but a few ppl on here said do not use sand! I'm so confused

I have always used a dirt floor but some people suggest non treated bark. If you mean inside the coop itself, I use newspaper and then pine shavings on top. It is easy to roll up the paper to clean. Good luck and have fun!

I put mine out at 3 weeks in the middle of May in upstate ny. Your chicks will be fine. 😂

Also, I use sand in my coop and love it. Poop dries instantly. Construction sand to be precise.

Really?? I have 4 week old near fully feathered chicks that are making a MESS in my house in their brooder. I have a large coop outside (with no electricity so I cannot provide heat) and I'm in NJ, so 75-85 during the day 65-55 at night. Do you think it's okay to keep them outside full time? (I currently put them in the coop during the day to slow the mess rate in my home lol)

I think they are fine to go out. They will huddle together if they get cool. I’m sure you will get lots of advice but use your best judgement. It was down into the 40s in May here, highs in the 60s and low 70s. On the really cold nights I left a heat lamp on for them in the coop. But I don’t think you would need to in June in NJ.
