Can I put leftover gerbil food in the hen house?

A friend gave me her leftover gerbil feed and bedding. I'd like to use the bedding (looks like the shredded paper kind) in the brooder for older chicks. Any reason I shouldn't do that?

And can I feed my pullets the gerbil food? It's just WalMart brand rodent feed. I'm just wanting to save a little $ and use up something that's free.

The ingredients are all safe for chickens. The blend and analysis isn't correct and balanced for them. I would toss a handful out as a treat or scratch but not offer it as their only food.
