I have brahmas an there not that great at flying, I'm assuming the roost needs to be lower. Can I pit the nesting boxes on the floor so I can have the roost elevated high enough, but yet low enough for the brahmas. Any help/ ideas are welcomed!

My nesting boxes are mounted at floor level, they sort of hang out the back side of the coop. If you put yoyurs on the floor near the roost, you may want to put in a poop board to keep poop out of the nest boxes.

My coop is very small because I have just 2 hens. It's only 3' tall so the nest box is on the floor and the perch is 18" above the floor. It works great for us!

My nest boxes are on the floor.
The chickens, of course, completely ignore them and lay in a makeshift nest hidding behind an old cardboard box in the far corner.

The ways of chickens continue to amuse me.

Floor level should be fine though, go for it.

I had a nest box mounted on the wall once, long ago. The girls laid their eggs on the floor underneath it.

The best nest box I ever had was an old cardboard box full of straw. When it got dirty I tossed it on the compost heap, poop, straw and all, and put in another box. Cheap.
