Hello, I've got a rir and leghorn currently sitting on eggs the rir hatch is due a week before leghorn. I'm planning on penning them after they hatch seperate from my main flock and I'm wondering if I can pen the two mamas and all the chicks together? Thanks :)

It just depends on the hens. Sometimes they cooperate and work together, and sometimes they attack the chicks or each other. Have you tried them together while they are still stting?

As Judy said, it depends on the hens. I have had two hens raise one chick before. It is more likely that they will fight over the chicks, though, so be very careful and watch them closely for the first day or two.

Ok thanks a lot! They are sitting in nest boxes right next to each other one day they were both in a nest box sitting. I'll have to see how it works out and make a separate spot just in case

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your hatch! X3, it just depends on the hens. Even if they do not fight over the chicks, some hens will get really territorial over food especially and keep the other hen away from it.
