You can run fishing line and hang CDs or some other sparkly or reflective object from it. This will generally deter hawks.
I would not post anything about killing or actively harrassing hawks on this board. Hawks are federally protected and don't think for one minute federal fish and game wardens don't cruise through here once in a while for a quick look. Just a heads up.
There is a minimum $5000 fine and 6 months jail for anyone killing a hawk, this penalty can also be assessed if somebody rats on you. You might want to read this: http://austringer.net/wp/index.php/turn-em-in-fws/
I understand that BYC believes different people deal with predators in different ways, and that is great, but I do not think BYC will encourage posting about an illegal act.
Technically it is illegal to kill or "harass" birds of prey under Federal Law, however, I'm pretty sure that what I do is legal, and it works! I string up CD's along my pasture, the shininess of them when they blow around keeps the birds of prey away.

If you can encourage crows, then do it. We have a group of crows that hang out in the tallest trees on our property, they've been here all year so we're hoping they'll nest here in the Springtime.
I've seen them dive at the hawks and chase them away.
