Through my previous hatchis, chicks have ended up not tame, so ive been thinking of taking the chicks away from the mum. Is this a good idea and will it make them tamer? I would once thier pullets give them back to the mum though

I don't know that the hen would take them back as her own if she doesn't raise them from the start.
If you separate the hen and chicks from the flock, could you handle them daily as you would if they were in a brooder? That way she can still teach them and protect them during integration but they will be used to being handled.

I know how to teach them myself. Ive been thinking of selling the hen once they hatch due to having so many chickens.

If you can handle the broody, the chicks will see this and let you handle them a little easier. Unless it's an old hen that lives to adopt every baby she sees, I wouldn't count on her taking them back. I've had chicks hatch way early and took them away so the hen would stay on the rest of the eggs and she rejected the chicks when I tried to reunite them. But that's just been my experience.

I understand buff orphingtons are good broodies, but if you have to many chickens already, why are you hatching more?
A good broody hen IS the best way to add chicks to your flock.
They do all the work, no heat lamps to rig up, no boxes you have to change the litter in daily. The mom will intigrate the chicks into the flock with few problems. Saving you all kinds of work.
Overcrouding chickens is the best way to cause yourself and your flock a variety of problems and health issues.
Hatching new chicks is fun and exciting, but a responsible flock owner uses some moderation.
Are you in chicken sales bussiness?

The tamest frendliest hen in the world can become a different bird when she has chicks to defend and look out for.
Once the chicks are older she will return to her normal self.
Mothers are mothers whatever species they are, human ,chicken, elephant or lion. We all defend our children, some even most would give up there life for there babies.

I'm a Hatch-a-holic too.
But I have learn to control myself. Let me rephrase that, I've learned to control myself somewhat!
