Can I trim my silkie's crest?

I use some natural chem free hair gel I found at the farmers market for my Sultan (I was too scared of trimming her feathers). Poor girl, you should've seen the surprised look on her face when she finally got to see! And now she looks much cooler with her Mohawk. Maybe I should make her a leather jacket too.

How can you tell if a feather is a "blood feather"? I'm afraid to hurt my sweet girl. She's going to a new home Sunday and I want to make sure she'll be able to see when she's introduced to new chickies
