I have a glass top stove and I can't use a "granny-ware" canner nor a pressure canner. I've been using an 8 qt stock pot with a small caning rack. I can't can more than 4 pints or 2 qts at a time and in all truth, it's not really deep enough for quarts.

I saw a large standard size but stainless steel canner at KMart and was wondering if it would be OK for me to use on my glass-top stove? It is bigger than the heating element, but then again, other canners are too.

Just want some other opinions.

Thanks

I'd check with your stove manufacturer. When I was shopping for a new stove last winter I was told that Whirlpool was the only company to guarentee their glass tops for use with any kind of canner...either hot water or pressure.

Once the canner is full of water and canning jars that are full of food the weight plus the heat is what shatters most glass top stoves.

I suggest purchasing a stand alone cooking eye and using that when canning. We used to call them a hot plate but I think some places have renamed them to something else in their catalogs.
