Can I use Blu Kote on a chicken?

Blu-Kote is off label use for chickens. Some people use it, other people avoid it. It does contain carcinogens that can cause cancer, and it will stain the chicken bright blue. If it's a deep puncture then I do not advise using it. From what I recall the label is for minor surface wounds, not for deep injuries.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

What are you looking to use it on?

Yes you can use it however there are better things to use instead. Never use Blukote on deep wounds, it turns the skin very hard and does not allow healing and can actually cause more bacterial growth. You can use a saline solution, iodine, antibiotic lotions or creams, Vetericyn is a wonderful spray to use, heals wounds fast and disinfects well.

I have a chicken that is molting that has an actual hole under her wing. Is it OK to use Blu Kote on a chicken?
You're better off flushing the wound with saline solution on a regular basis if it is a hole. When you say an actual hole, is it from a feather or is it an actual wound? Does it look infected?

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

I would never use Blu kote in a puncture wound. Do you know how she got the injury? I would flush it out, clean the area with a disinfectant like providone or hibiclens then smear a thick layer of triple antibiotic ointment over it.
