Hi all! I am in need of some advise! I got 4 chickens about a month ago (all egg layers). I had one pass suddenly and unexpectedly. Yesterday I came home to one of them very lethargic and she kept tucking herself in a corner with her head down. I brought her inside and started her on force fed corid. By night she was eating and drinking (no more force feeding ;)) but I was able to visibly see large worms in her poo. I am hesitant to stop the corid after such a great turn around but I know she needs to be wormed. Can I use both at the same time?
Thanks!!

In a case like that, yes, you should deworm them, but not by adding Piperazine (Wazine) to waterers. If you've done 5-7 days of Corid (treatment dose is 2 tsp for 9.6% liquid, and 1 to 1.5 tsp for 20% powder), that should be good enough. Use Safe-guard suspension orally at 1 ml/cc each day for 3 days, or use Valbazen suspension at .5 ml/cc once and then again in 10 days. Just feed it to each bird with a 1 ml syringe without a needle. Follow up with poultry vitamins-probiotics 3 days after.

Thanks!! She has had such a turn around she is back in the coop with all the other ladies for a group worming!! (UGH) I have another pen set up to swap them to but it was intended for a new group of chicks we had coming.. any way to treat the ground my chickens are on now so they dont need to be moved?

Welcome to BYC! Safeguard and Corid can be used at the same time.

Fremont Michigan.. Just bought a 10 acre hobby farm. So far 4 kids, 4 goats, 3 chickens, and a hound dog :) we are trying to get more chickens but I am getting nervous about purchasing private though. We have had quite a few issues from the chickens we bought. Seems to feel like I am buying others problems. I think we are just going to buy a bunch of chicks and start ourselves :)

Maybe someone in this thread can help you find a reputable breeder:

Okay another question.. My chicken is doing much better (more energetic than ever) but hasn't started laying again. I know I have to throw out all the eggs but any ideas after being sick like that how long to wait for some production to come back?

I to am having the same problem I have put corid in the water but can I also use Fenbendazole for worming?
