Can i use honey?

I will be picking up some pea chicks soon and i do not have any sugar on hand in case they have a problem with stress after the move like i had with one last year.

So can i use the fresh honey i have on hand instead of sugar because it takes over a year to use up a bag of sugar here if it does not turn into a rock first.

You are not supposed to give honey to babies because of botulism. The bees collect botulism spores and incorporate it into the honey. It is no danger to humans once the immune system get going. I would be afraid of the same issue with peachicks.

Thanks a bunch i thought something like that might happen but needed to know for sure, I'll get some sugar on the way to get them.

are you using the sugar in there water to get them more energized if so me and my dad have uesd powerade or gatorade before when they were just born

I always use poultry vitamins & electrolytes the first few days. Figure it is made with what they need.

yea we have done that too but when we dont have any we use powerade

You can use unflavored pedialyte, it is a very plain electrolyte solution available at any major store like walmart. We use it often with wild rescue birds when we aren't sure how long its been since they had food or water- we mix it with the formula instead of using water for the first day. We also add some to the water of any chicks we hatch, since hatching takes quite a lot out of them.

The next time you go to a Convenience store and get coffee get a coke what ever grab you some of the small packets of sugar then.
