can i use lard in cookies instead of shortening??

i have a peanut butter cookie recipe and it calls for 1/2 cup shortening, but at the store i bought lard instead of shortening, can i use it, will it change the flavor any???? thank-you!!!!

Are you serious? All the grocery stores here carry it. They do only sell the little pails now though instead of the 5 gallon cans we used as a kid.

Seriously, I know I'm in the South, but I thought everybody used lard...


Who knew?   I learn something everyday.

you can buy lard at any butcher shop, and lard has no flavor.
