can i use lard in cookies instead of shortening??

i have a peanut butter cookie recipe and it calls for 1/2 cup shortening, but at the store i bought lard instead of shortening, can i use it, will it change the flavor any???? thank-you!!!!

Well, I'm from the South and not a cook, but I think lard works to improve anything.

Go ahead and use it.

Lard won't make your cookies taste like bacon any more than it makes pie crusts taste like bacon.

Butter would be a good substitute too.
