i have a peanut butter cookie recipe and it calls for 1/2 cup shortening, but at the store i bought lard instead of shortening, can i use it, will it change the flavor any???? thank-you!!!!

Im no baking expert, but i belive shortening would be the proper ingredient for baking cookies, not lard

Lard is what they used before Crisco came along so I bet it would be fine........I just prefer to use butter in my cookies.

Well, I'm from the South and not a cook, but I think lard works to improve anything.

Go ahead and use it.

Lard won't make your cookies taste like bacon any more than it makes pie crusts taste like bacon.

Butter would be a good substitute too.

Lard doesn't taste like bacon! It's like a food group all it's own.

Sweet tea is about the only thing in the south I can think of it's not used in...

I really like sweet tea too....maybe I will make some.

Will you eat spinach or asparagus if it has lard in it?
