Can I use pigeon health grit for chicks?

I asked for chicken grit from the local feed store and they ordered pigeon health grit for me to use. It is red and has a strange odor. What makes it red and can I give it to 4 week old chicks? Thanks in advance.

The Red pigeon grit is actually better for them than the chick grit.

I think the red is from the iodine

and I've read that the iodine is very good for them.
