Hi guys, I have just finished digging my pond for the ducks, there pen is inside the chicken pen so the chickens have been in there up until a few days ago. I put the ramp from the chickens old house in the pond and now there are lots of small yellow things jumping around on the pond. They generally stay along the side but when you disturb them they start jumping around. They try to climb out the pond but they can't get enough grip. Could these be lice? I was also thinking springtails but can't get close enough to see if they have that springy thing. I have checked all the chickens over and I can't see any signs of lice so I am really at a Loss. Help please!
Thanks in advance.

It's simple, lice dont have the ability to jump. Got a magnifying glass? Capture the jumping insects and look at them under a magnifying glass. Here's a link with very detailed pics of all the types of lice that can live on poultry, compare your findings.
