Can mulch be used as bedding?

I had 4 trees come down in a storm on Friday. As part of the clean up I have a bunch of mulch now. It's poplar and red oak trees. Can this be used as bedding in the run, or coop?

Not sure if this is the proper forum or not.

Ditto this. I tried it in the coop just because I had a ton. It was heavy to shovel out, not especially absorbant, and just a huge hassle around the doors.

I use it in my run and it's wonderful there, but I don't think I'd use it inside the coop because it retains so much moisture if it gets wet.
