can my bantam rooster mate with my two buff orpingtons?

hi! i have a little bantam rooster and two buff orpington hens and am trying to breed them. but even tho one of my orpingtons has a cluch of 12 eggs she still wont sit on them. does this mean her eggs are not finalized? and if so can a bantam rooster even mate with buff orpington hens?

Hi there, Your hen only has a clutch because you aren't taking the eggs.
A rooster can't make a hen broody, neither can the presence of a clutch. it's a hormone thing, she can be broody without ever seeing a rooster.
He might he able to mate but to check fertility, you crack open an egg and search the yolk for a bullseye.

Broody is a hormonal and bred “trait” its caused by lots of hormones at essentially random, though some breeds go more broody then others.

No, a broody hen will even sit on golf balls. They don’t care what they are on most of the time, this alone does not determine if they are fertile.

Size pictures would help, there are extremely small bantams and larger bantams.

Technically, a rooster can mate any hen. But a matter if it gets fertilized, thats another story. Picture him on her back, is he to small to psychically do anything? The cloaca must touch, if he is to small he will be mating her back and nothing will happen.

Do you know the breed of your bantam roo? A bantam serama is much tinier then say, a bantam cochin so it does help.

he is about half my hens size. i dont know his extract breed but he is black with a little bit of white and brown. like 95% black. and i dont have any good images of him compared to the hens and i cant take one rn bc its night and they are sleeping. so i will take one tomorrow.

As far as the bantam being able to inseminate an Orp, depends on his technique.
If he can reach his cloaca to touch hers, it's possible.
Have you seen him mating her?
Tho Orps can have very fluffy butt and even a standard sized male n=might have trouble.

If he’s new it might take time, but does it look like its possible? It’s hard to know without knowing the breed of the rooster or pictures.

he has been here for a month. and idk weather it looks possible or not. i will send pictures of them later today tho

Do the girls submit and let him?
Do their cloaca's touch?
Google "cloacal kiss" to understand more about how birds mate.
