Started my bbw turkeys on 22.5% Koudijs Broiler Starter and complemented it with some fish powder each day when giving them food. At 9 weeks they weighted 7.72lbs, but was supposed to be 12-14lbs at that time per the chart I measured against. I weighed them last Tuesday at 13 weeks exactly and they scored 13.89lbs, but should have been 22-24lbs. I must admit I haven't given them the best of feed since their Broiler Stater finished because I was trying to experiment my knowledge of mixing my own feed for them and their room always had widespread wetspots all through and I thought to myself it's because of the feed experimental. Now after having suffered a weight gain delay how can I get their weight back up to normal it should be? I really need them to be around 55-60lbs at week 30. What can I do about this since I still want home made feed remedy? Really grateful for all the support. Thanks!

I'm not the most knowledgeable on here but have to ask...First, you looking at the male or female weights on your chart? Secondly 55-60lbs? I would guess that would be one of the more rare weights that could possibly be attained and still have a live turkey. I've heard people say that they ended up with that size but I can't image that really being a goal.

Sorry I can't answer more on your question.

If your sole purpose is to quickly reach maximum weight before processing, switch to high fat feeds such as BOSS and cracked corn. In order to supplement their diet with essential vitamins, use vitamin B complex at the rate of 1/2 tablet dissolved in one gallon of water. Make it their only source of water. It should be mad fresh daily.

The chart I compared with was for both males and females rowed differently. I want that weight for my male turkeys by Christmas. Yea, Heard they could have health problems, especially with too much in their bodies. I thought using apple cider vinegar would handle that. Or I am wrong?

Thanks so much, champ! Was thinking I needed a rather more protein diet. Thanks so much once again, will definitely try that.

ACV will not do anything good for your turkeys. It can actually be harmful since it interferes with the proper absorption of calcium. Vitamin B complex is with its niacin and thiamine will help with the leg issues.

More protein won't hurt but the fat content will help them gain weight fast. The corn will cause a deep yellow fat layer to be deposited. A high protein diet would have been beneficial when they were younger but not so much at this point.

Really!😳🥺 Then I need to stop using it ASAP. Been using it for like 3 weeks now continuously.

Well noted. Thanks!

So would home made feed composed of mainly corn and soybean meal be fine? Those are what I can easily lay hands on.
