I went to the store the other day to buy some chick starter but they were out of stock. They said I could feed them this bird food with seeds and corn. Can they eat bird food? Also, when I used to have chicken food it was corn with this powder on it. Was it okay to feed my 1 month old baby chicks that?

What store can you purchase food for baby chicks and bigger chickens? Thanks!

You can buy from local graineries, feed stores, or perhaps other farmers. There is information on making your own mixes on the internet and in books. They need foods like grain (most people use corn) as well as protein. Seeds are a great supplement, but they can't be given alone. Vitamins should be offered and some vegetables and fruits can add some variety and nutrition.

I hope this helps.

Hi Larry!

Larry where are you at? If you have a Agway near you, you can buy chick fed by the pound there. I use Southern States or Agway ( Agway) or Purina or Naturewise ( Tractor Supply). Also pick up a bag of the medium size granite grit by "Gran-I-Grit" at Agway. They are too old for chick grit now. Here's a research article I wrote on the subject :
The Science of Feeding Grit to Poultry:
