Can my dog get sick from eating chicken poo?

I took my dog to the vet this morning because he has been having trouble with walking. His balance is really bad and his eyes keep jumping back and forth as tho he is dizzy. He was vomiting on Saturday. I called the emergency animal clinic on sunday and they thought it may be an inner ear infection. Anyway when we got to the vet this morning... she checked his ears and said they were fine but thinks he has a brain tumer (cancer) and there is nothing we can do but treat the symptoms with a steriod to reduce the swelling of the brain.. and some pepsid if he has an upset stomache. I then told her he had eaten chicken poop. She told me she was going to look up something to see if there is a possible parasite that comes from chicken poo that would give the same symptons. I have yet to hear from her. I was wondering if anyone here has ever heard of dog getting sick from eating chicken poop. I know he didn't get very much and that was about a month ago. He's a lab/shepard mix and he's 13 1/2 yrs old.

They can get round worms, but that wouldn't cause the symptoms you're describing. 13 is old for a dog, and cancer is becoming more and more common, so the brain tumor diagnosis sounds legit.

My vet swears he's seeing dog/cat cancers in much higher numbers because we've been convinced that store-bought food is the way to go, and it contains so many animal by-products. In other words, everything that isn't fit for human consumption!

My dog eats chicken poo all the time! And its frozzen but he has never goten sick from it. He is a maltepoodle and his age is 9 months old. Well i hope your dog is ok!!! Good Luck!

he's got "old dog vestibular disease" very common in old dogs, they eventually get better but may always have a head tilt, it's getting them through the dizziness because they get so nauseous during this time and get dehydrated from barfing, hope he gets better soon, by the way my dogs love chicken poo, they're gross

Thank you for the reply Kathy. I know people normally talk about chickens here and not an illness with other animals. I am on this forum reading it all the time. I've learned everything about raising my chickens from this website thanks to all the people here.

I was just hoping that maybe it was a parasite that could be treated with medication. wishing for that glimmer of hope. I mean my dog Smokey was the picture of health 3 days ago and now he can barely walk. Looks like we are going to have to prepare ourselves to say goodbye to our very loved family member Smokey.

Where are you from? I was raised in Munster and I have one sister in Griffith and another sister in Crown Point. Sorry about your dog. All of my dogs have always eaten a variety of poo-some exotic. Heartworm meds take care of most worms after the dog is tested.
