My silkie is about 5-6 months old and this am I heard something similar to a crow . I do not have any roosters yet... Is this a hen? Is she confused? Or roo... I'll have to find him a home if that's the case

Has anyone experienced this? Could it be a hen? No crowing the rest of the day.... I'm shocked! She has very very tiny waddles.... I feel like it's a hen.... I am so disappointed!

Well, as of this am.... No crowing. It happened twice yesterday morning and we haven't heard it since. There is a poultry swap in my area tomorrow so I thought maybe I should bring the silkie and swap for another girl. Maybe a buff orpington, or a speckled Sussex. My coronation Sussex and the silkie are very attached and I am afraid to get rid of the silkie to soon.... However I do believe if it is a rooster, I need to let it go. Although we live on 1 1/2 acres there is a development behind me I'm afraid will file a noise complaint. What would you do?

Edited to include: I bought the silkie older trying to ensure it was female. I paid 15 dollars for her which in the grand scheme of things I know isn't a lot . I knew there was a small risk... I guess I'm disappointed :(

Are you positive it was crowing you heard? Pullets nearing laying age can make a lot of noise too.

I'm not positive I suppose... I was very surprised. I've Ben sitting outside with my phone hoping to catch a video !!! This I my first go at chickens so... I can't say absolutely but it was loud and new.... If she is getting near laying age I'd be so excited! I'm waiting for my first eggs from both of them! Thank you for your reply

We have an old hen walking around who crows whenever our rooster is put away? It's more high-pitched than a regular rooster's crow, but she tries really hard to make it sound like one. And she is most definitely a girl. So it might be an indicator, but it doesn't have to mean anything. She could just be trying to compensate for the lack of a roo.
