can new chicks have outside time?

A mini tractor is good but whatever you do put a top on. I've had a hawk come after a chick while I was standing right there. You don't want to witness that. It's great watching the little cutties try and fly when you put them down though. PEACE

We always set our little playpen up under the tree in our yard , both to give us shade while we were chicken watching in the summer heat , and to camoflage them from hawks . Chilling is right about that ! A hawk would try it. Whatever you do , keep an eye on the little sweeties at all times when they are outside until you have secure run ready for them.

I kept my brooder in the barn initially with a 60 watt incandesant bulb in my brooder lamp 24 hrs a day until they started getting their feathers, about 2 wks. Then I made an enclosed area outside in the sun where I put their brooder, then I only put the brooder lamp on at night when I would take their brooder back into the barn.
