Can olive oil be used to flush a ducks system? I have a girl with suspected hardware disease.
Vet appt. scheduled for Fri. but she’s not doing well, and I need to try something asap.

You can try using olive oil with water and give her a little drink but u can be sure it WONT flush her system.All these diseases are often caused by their water,dirty water to be exact,that is why you should try different ways to keep the water clean to prevent any other system damage to other ducklings,I would recommend you to immediately isolate her in a basket,cage or kennel.On Friday, If she is diagnosed with the disease,the vet may provide an effective vaccine or antibiotics.But for now keep her in her isolated area and provide fresh filtered water and some mixed feed and electrolytes water to keep her active.

This is in no way caused by dirty water! Fresh water twice a day, and we only have 2 so it’s never actually super dirty. Hardware disease has many many more causes. And she’s not even a duckling lol.

Excuse me,are sure it’s a hardware disease?Did u witness it swallowing something made of copper or a ring etc or are quite sure of the symptoms,Because the symptoms of hardware disease and respiratory are quite similar,and the vet never diagnosed any of the sick ducks I knew with anything but respiratory disease(the most common),though I could say your duck has hardware disease if your so confident.

Here this may help.

As it is said in this article,if the duck has stopped eating because of the item maybe stuck halfway inside it’s neck,you don’t need to try,making it drink because it won’t be able to swallow anyway,the best option for you is to immediately find another vet appointment by today.

No… that’s why I said suspected. There could be a hugeee array of things. Hardware disease, broken bones, respiratory issue, liver issue, internal egg issue etc. I already gave it to her now.

Well if she’s swallowed it,it shouldn’t be stuck in her neck,but it could still be hardware disease in ur opinion.how’s she?have u given her electrolytes and found another vet appointment?

@Gracie Bodis
How is your duck doing?
Could you post her symptoms and when it started?
A flush can help with toxins, but the metal may stay in the digestive system. An xray can show if metal has been ingested and where it is located.
