Can one raise quail without electricity?

Hovabator 1602 N with no frills is $50 from a local feed store. Add the PC fan yourself and it's as good as any incubator. The GQF turner includes quail racks, so those kits they sell on ebay are a farce. Local feed stores sells the turner which includes chicken and quail racks for 45. Still under 100 there with no shipping. PC $3 off ebay... old 5v cell phone charger and your rockin. The only thing is fiddling with the little wafer thermostat, but with the fan it's no biggie. If you have the turner and don't have to open, your incubator will work like a charm, just add water from one of the plugs at the top every few days. In the case of power outages, throw towels on it without covering the ventilation holes. In fact wrapping the incubator will help to further stabilize temps anyway.

I have a Brinsea ECO 20, upgraded to this after doing all the upgrades to the 1602N. Bad mistake, brinsea super expensive and unintelligent design. Small capacity.. blah blah.

Wow @ aprophet!!

That is some project! Thank you very much for sharing. I will have to play around with that idea in the future. It's a bit ambitious for me right now but I'm glad to see something like that can be done.

I think I am going with the Hovabator 1602N right now as it will be the easiest to get started. Once I get my brooder and pens built out I can double back to the incubator project.

Thank you all for these ideas... keep 'em coming!
