Hi, I am new to incubating and have successfully had 2 chicks hatch. I have another one ready but I can only see its feet. It is still moving. It has been like it for 3 hours. Shall I just leave it and see what happens. Thank you.

you should leave the egg alone til after a 24hour period has passed then i would carefully try to help it out of the egg you can look for tips online. It is fairly common for eggs to take 24 hours till they come out of the shelling.

I'm confused, I've never seen a chick come out feet first. And within 3 hours, it should be moving around more. I'd be tapping on the incubator, or trying to lure the others over to it, to get it to move.

Hi, thank you all for your responses. When I went to turn the chicken over I noticed the membrane was quite dry and tight around the chick and it's other leg was I think behind itself. Also it's beak was stuck in the membrane and was quite dry so it seemed stuck bit it was squeaking quite loud. I decided to help it and remove the membrane and the shell. The chick is OK but there is something wrong with its leg. I will have a look later. If it was with its mother I don't think it would have survived, but who knows !

Just an update. After reading the help pages on the emergency/disease and help section, I gave the chick a bit of physiotherapy a few times a day. It was like the chick didn't know how to stand properly. I am now pleased to say I have put it in with the other chick and she seems to be doing really well, running, pecking and jumping. So thank you to this forum and website. It has been invaluable.
