Solved Can people stop responding to 10 year old threads?

I like commenting or reading old posts information is information. I have chicken magazines over 10 years old I still read. I don't think we should cancel anything! Just like a TV channel or a radio station you don't like you can always change the channel.

There is a huge difference between reading an old thread for information or an old magazine or tv show and commenting on an old thread.

Most of the time the old threads are inactive due to lack of interest of all of the people participating, adding new information at that point is pointless and even rude in many cases.

There is no reason you can't start your own thread and quote a few posts from an old closed thread to try to get new interest but still tie it to the original, that would make more sense and be more polite than hijacking someone else's thread.

Not usually rude in a reportable way, but in a "I hope it gets better" post when the bird died a month or more ago kind of way and had they bothered to read or not comment on an old thread they wouldn't have been insensitive and rude kind of way.

When someone responds to an old inactive post, most often the OP and the original responders are long gone. If I open an old post that has been bumped to the top and I start coming across members who I have never heard of, I recognize that it's old and move on not commenting to the person who bumped it up. Well many of us have this same approach or point out that the OP is long gone and that chicken died years ago. So now you have a new member who is feeling ignored. Is that our goal?

I have seen where I had a now question but could only find the answer in an post. Yes I could post new, but if my question was already answered, why clutter the post with a new.

As someone suggested on my thread on a similar subject, I like the idea of locking threads after 1 year since the last reply date. This leaves them able to be found and used for information, but can't be dredged up with new replies, thus cluttering the 'active threads' bar and distracting from important, current threads (Such as emergencies)

I remember going on vacation to Palm Desert, the resort was playing classic rock- (zz top, AC/DC) and an Elder-millennial complained that the music was old fashioned, and wanted them to play something more relevant. In doing so she became relevant as well.
