Those are some great pics! I knew they must have started flying cause DH has been excited about the construction of the coop & has even offered ideas to further my "chicken luncacy" plans....this from the man who was ready to ban the words chicken & egg back in January when the serious nagging started

Yup, I've seen these too! Been begging my DH for one but he can't stand flying pigs because they just get into EVERYTHING!!!! My friend raises these... but it's kinda like a frizzle gene... they don't ALL get their wings... more like 25%

Here's one of her recent babies

Mrs. Ozark Hen,

The Rev. is a little more savvy than I gave him credit for; seems he's heard about these here pigs.

While he did appreciate the effort, and fun, that was involved; he remains...unmovable. "What are we to do with a pig?", as in where would we keep it? Who would take care of it?, and he just kept on and on and on...

Now, notice he didn't completely rule pigs out, just gave me a coupla stipulations...

tricky, very tricky... I mean he knows they are rare, only 1 in every million or so are born, and...that's only on blue moon cycles.

When building your coop and run make sure each one can spread it's wings and not tear his feathers up on the fence. Also, this one is important, make SURE the roosts are very secure and the right size. So many people, like with poultry, will put little roosts in the coops, then wonder why their pigs are walking stiff or not perching at all.

I suggest large sturdy roosts and plenty of flight room. Another very important aspect of the coop(!) make sure you have a TON of bedding in the coop and run. They tend to be clumsy while they are learning, and you don't want any hard landings.

Enjoy your flying pigs! I never ever regretted getting mine. If they fly off, lure them back with chicken eggs or other treats.

Now Gwen, look in your local Craigslist and see if you can find a dog pen or something that can used for a pig pen. Any parishoners who could help you? LOL
Don't you just love the photos? And the one from Kim is great!
