I have lost another hen today. The first two were a few months ago and the vet couldn't find any cause of death but they did have mites which we've been treating for since. This hen displayed the same symptoms as the first two and she had been treated for mites. But we have a major problem with oppossums right now. I think one might even be living under one, if not both, of my hen houses. They were around all winter as well. We've managed to get rid of 2 but they are still here as evidenced by pics on my trail camera. In fact one was even photographed at 8am monday morning! That one is on my hit list now for sure. I've never heard of chickens or other poultry getting diseases from these varmits but i want to be sure. All the hens we've lost have been fine until a day or two before their death. My hens are kept in a fully enclosed run too so they're not out on pasture eating from the same area of the yard but maybe the possums being along the edge of their fence would be enough? I hope our ducks and ducklings are safe if there is a disease issue going on here. Anyhow, thanks for the help. So greatly appreciated.
