Can predators open these types of locks?

My 2 year old son has no trouble with them so it got me wondering if raccoons or something could open them. What do you think? What type of lock do you have on your doors?

We have two latches on the one gate leading out of the fenced in runs...

One is a sliding barrel latch, like the ones in your pictures. It's nearly frozen with rust, and quite hard to open.

The other is a regular hasp with a small lock. I used to keep it locked with a small carabiner, but somebody opened the gate and a local stray dog got in and killed our rooster two Octobers ago.

Raccoons can open lots of types of locks...but if you have it high up they probably will not.

If a four year old can open it, a raccoon can open it!!!!! Putting the locks up high is not fool proof if the racoon can climb on the cage or wire or get on top of the coop.

Yes, a padlock is best IMO.

I use one similar to that except bigger and has a provision for a padlock. Once you bolt the door, the lock goes though the hole behind the bolt.
