Can pullets lay inconsistent size eggs?

Bought 3 chickens about 2+ weeks ago and was told they were about 6 months old. 5 days ago I got my first egg. They've laid 1 egg each day except 3 days ago.
Day 1 (left, 46 grams)
Day 2 (2nd from left, 67 grams)
Day 3 nothing
Day 4 (3rd, 50 grams)
Day 5 (4th, 52 grams)
Can the same chicken be laying all the eggs? Does a pullet ever do a large egg and then go back to smaller pullet eggs?

It takes a bit of time for the pullet's plumbing to get working properly. It's not unusual to get large double yoked eggs, small no yoke eggs, or soft shelled eggs. It'll all work out eventually.

I think so....I couldn't believe the size of this one! The smaller brown egg is "average" for my large hens but I got a surprise when I found the one in the middle! lol

Nice looking eggs...what breed birds?

I would guess that all 3 birds are laying...just by shape
Left 2 from same bird, bigger one a double yolker.
Right 2 from different birds.
Not unusual for them to skip days at first either.
Can take up to a month or so for things to smooth out and get 'consistent'.

Hey Aart, great day, I almost agree with you..

I think 2 birds are laying, the first two the same bird, second just a double yolk, the last 2 the same bird.

The best part is we most likely will neither one be proven wrong, The color and shade on the first two is identical, to me.

I do like the color and shade of all the eggs, so What breed?

Last 2 different shapes....but you are right in that we'll never know for sure

It's not only possible for them to lay a couple of different sizes, I think it's required for pullets. It must be in the "You, Too, Can Be a Successful Pullet" hand book they read while they're still in the incubator or under Mama Hen. <sigh> First you get one of these adorable, teeny, perfect little eggs. You bring it in and oooh and ahhh over it. You go out eagerly the next day and find a shell less or rubber egg and get concerned. But the next day there's a perfect, large egg. You hoop and holler and get all excited, and can't wait to gather more of these special pearls when you wake up in the morning. What do you find? A teeny, tiny, perfect little egg, even smaller than the first one you found.

They have two reasons for doing this, I think. The first is, as the Agreeing Two have indicated, getting the assembly line fine tuned. But the more devious, REAL reason they do this is that chickens feel more secure if they can see the worry lines forming on your face. It means they have totally captivated you and you are going to fret over each little thing, real or imagined, that happens in the coop, the run, or the nest box. They see it as job security. You're going to keep them around because once they do start laying consistently and the eggs are beautifully shaped, colored and sized, you'll remember the first ones and be grateful.

See, I got this all figured out! I have 28 of them out there who made real sure the worry lines formed on my face and their jobs are secure.
