Can quail go in with chickens?

If the run portion of my chicken coop is made with hardware cloth can I put my coturnix in with my chickens? I made then a seperate coop right now, but they poo so much. I would rather them have a larger area to run around in, and to spread the poo out

Are your chickens Standard or Bantams? I would think the quail would be kind of small to go with Standard , but i guess you can't know for sure. For sure there will be a pecking order but what if you put one in and watch what te other chickens reactions are?

I had bobwhites in with my chickens and it was the quail who actually picked on the chickens. Not a lot, but occasionally you'd see one go after a chicken and grab onto a fanny or leg feather of the chicken. They reminded me of little ankle biter dogs.

Well...i'll just tell you my little story...

We had Texas A&M quails... well one day my husband was putting food in their cage or something...and one got out..it landed in the middle of my yard...well...my chickens saw it....they ALL jumped on it and tried to tear it to pieces! It was horrible! Of course we ran over and fought our way through the beasts and saved the poor thing...
So..my advice is no..
Although, maybe i just had a freak thing happen...but i doubt it. Chickens can be brutal killers..Just ask the little chimpmunk i found..

I kinda figured that, but I only have bantams with 3 BO who are really docile. I might have to try and free range them during the day a bit in the run. See how it goes.

Quail can be very vicious - they are as bad as pheasants. Also chicken germs can quickly over take quail and you can loose them over night. I wouldn't mix them.

I had 1 coturnix in with some bantam chickens and they did fine BUT they were also raised together. Chickens can be very mean to smaller animals, so I would advise against it unless they were raised together.

bad idea. chickens will eat um... dont care what size they are MEAN!!!!!
