Can silkies fly?

Can silkies fly? Fly up to the roost? I have a roosting bar in my brooder and my silkie refuses to use it. My red sex link stays with the silkie as they are best buddies!


My coops roosts are 5ft high, but have a shelf to catch the poop at 3-3.5 ft high. They jump on the shelf to get to the roost.

I don't think they fly. Not that high if they do at all.

Vertical movement of silkies is almost entirely through jumping or clambering. Flight capacity is similar to a bag of cotton.

Make so they can access elevated roost through a series of small jumps or on a board with slats nailed to it so they can gain purchase as clambering up.
