Can someone give me some advice on sour crop?

Yes, she's still kicking! She's been hanging in there. She seems a bit more lively today than she did yesterday but I'm thinking surgery might be her only hope. She just will not vomit the stuff out and the suctioning didn't work. The oil isn't breaking anything up. Her crop is gigantic! I have to go about trying to get all of the stuff that I need to do it and I certainly will try it! I'm so amazed that they hold still and tolerate that!! If you can find any more info or anyone to help, it would be great. I'm going to send a few messages tonight and see if someone can help me get some of the stuff I need. I'd like to do this tomorrow if I could. I love this site...thanks so much for all of this!!

If anyone knows where I can get some supplies for doing this surgery on my chicken, please let me know!

I wouldn't do the surgery or the puking! ACV or regular vinegar will neutralize the sour crop. Feed grit and gently massage the crop a few times a day. Don't let her eat grass until the crop is resolved.

Lucysmom002, how shall I give her that ACV? Do I dilute it of give it to her straight? Will they just drink in on their own or do I have to force it? Is she allowed to eat her crumbles in this process and I read a lot about giving them plain yogurt?? I gave her some yogurt yesterday and she gobbled it up. Please get back to me soon! Thanks..

I am in lancaster right now on a mini-vacation with my hubby and our 4 kids. I would love to help you more but I rarely get to spend this much time with everyone anymore. The kids are always buisy doing things, and my hubby works 12 hrs a day normally. If there is any thing I can do otherwise please let me know. I am so glad she is still with you. She is a fighter, You are doing a great job trying to help her fight this too.
So you didn't try inserting the needle directly into her crop right? I'm far from a pro. but I wouldn't think it would hurt to try. I'm not sure if you would get any different results but it might be possible to insert the needle without the plunger so it can drain when the fluid gets to the tip of the needle. Of course you would have to hold her during this so she doesn't move and hurt her self more. Did you try the Coke? I did, Snowy seems great now and I have let her have her food back but with limits.
Let me know whats happening Kristen I worry about her.
Sending healing thoughts...

Mollie, I really wasn't expecting for you to come and help, it was a thought though

I understand that you need family time!! She actually seems to be a bit better today. Her mass isn't quite as massive, but it's still very big. I am so afraid to use the needle. I can't imagine that it would give me much more than what the tube in her throat would have done. Last resort, I will try it. I have given her ACV and a little bit of her crumbles along with grit, so hopefully it's helping. She is still up and about and I really think she wants to be with her pals. She is in a crate inside the coop. Poor girl. Thanks for all of your help!! ~Kristin

Kristen,
I would gladly help you if I can. I am glad to hear that she seems like she is doing better. Whew! You did a great job!
We are planning to go to Rutz auction on Tuesday. Have you ever gone there? I have been wanting to get some more hens. Not sure if that is the place. But last time I was there they had some nice ones. I have been contemplating for a long time on getting some Phesants but I don't think I will this time. What I thought was funny was they had alot of the cages marked as bantam's lol. You would think they would know better especially with Barred rocks and RIR's. Oh well as long as I know what I am getting thats what matters. I have set aside $40.00 so hopefully I can find some that I like and for the right price. Ok I have gotten way off track. But anyhow I didn't know if you would be interested in going to Rutz I guess that is what I really wanted to ask. LOL It's been a long weekend.
Ok well let me know.

Hi Mollie! I would love to go to Rutz, unfortunately my MIL is getting her dog fixed and will need me to pick it up at the vet for her that evening!! So I won't be able to then, but another time I would love to! My hubby would probably give me a list of rules as to what NOT to buy! LOL!!! He knows I would get in over my head with these animals of mine

I see that you have some frizzles!! I WOULD LOVE to own a few! Where did you get yours? If you would have some eggs or some peeps, I would buy some from you!! My hubby actually thought they were darling and agreed to me getting some! My chicky is still ticking. I'm not sure, she seems fine other than that nasty crop. I just wish it would either get better or she would just go in peace. I have tried all that I can. I haven't of course done the surgery. She's eating and has energy, I just don't know. I do know that I hate seeing her like that. So, we shall see I guess!

Kristin,
I only have Frizzle Roosters right now. I have not been lucky enough yet to get a pullet. But I will give you a frizzle roo if you want one. Lets see I have a (these were all born this year) Black one, One that is kind of a Smoky color, a Red one, and what I can only describe as a Callico colored one (white or cream color with red and black mixed in here and there). I will try to post a pic of them as soon as I figure out where our twin 5yr olds have hidden the camera. LOL But other than that take your pick and he's yours!
I hope I can find something good there tomorro at Rutz.
Mollie
