We purchased 3 'hens' about 6 months ago but I am not convinced at all that these two are female!

Both are crowing every morning (it's quite funny almost like they are talking to each other), is it usual for hens to crow or do only cockrels do that? It doesn't bother me, but I think the neighbours will complain soon if we can't quiet them down, especially when the sun starts coming up eariler!

Can someone help tell me what breeds they are and give an opinion on whether they are hens or roosters?

um,yeah, those are Roo's.....the striped one is a barred rock. the other one i dont know, but someone on here will.
you cant mistake those fella's for hens.

If they are crowing they are roosters. And they have saddle feathers. I'm not positive about breed but I think the black and white is a Barred Rock the other maybe a Red or Buff Leghorn???? They have white earlobes

The orange one is a boy for sure-he has spurs. I'm not a great identifier of breed so I can't help you on that one.

The other looks like it may be a dominique, however, like I said, I'm no expert. But it's crossed w/ something to have the white on it's earlobe. And I think it's too dark in color to be a barred rock roo. Check the back of it's legs and if you see nubbins where the spurs should be, then its a boy for sure.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Boy boy boy, yep they sure are boys! Someone unloaded their unwanted roos onto you. I don't think there is going to be much of a chance that you will be able to keep them quiet.

Both roos and I would say both mixes. The barred one isn't full BR since it has some white in its earlobes, overall dark color, and the barring is kind of blurry in places.
